First game of the infamous Metro Winter Warriors season was yesterday and Gotham continues an unbeaten streak that began last fall. A side note, we finished last season at the top of the table but due to scheduling conflicts, the last 3 games will be played in March. Regardless Gotham gave up 2 early quick goals last night, mainly because everyone was still adjusting to sub freezing temperatures, high winds, a frozen pitch, and a non-goalie goalie (yours truly). New recruit Paul de Lucena fell nicely into the defensive midfield even though he was sliding with studs as if the pitch was made of concrete. We quickly regained composure and in typical, recent gotham manner strung 4-5 decent passes together to free up Andrés J down the left flank to deliver perfect service into the path of a marauding, goal hungry Brett C who neatly tucked the frozen ball into the back of the net, barely missing the carnage of a collision with the woodwork.
The rest of the half was split pretty much on both sides of the pitch but within minutes into the second half, control of the game was clearly all Dinamo. The entire midfield peppered the enemy goalie at this point and he must have had hockey experience cause some of the saves where def defying. Any less of keeper and we would have won 6-2. Parity (to use an overused term) was achieved midway into the half when Taylor “Dani Alves” Anderson placed another perfectly placed ball into the path of a perfectly executed raid into the box by MotM Brett C. A lovely glance off the head and boom. The rest of the game was spent on their side of the ice rink but no concession and Gotham settled for a draw.
Special thanks to Jimenez bro number 3, Lucas, for braving the brutal conditions to provide a us with a sub.
The other team went by the name Hudson Hotspur and apparently 4-5 original members of Gotham, including ex-manager C. Matt Nichols, used to play for them. Little bit of history although this maybe only the second time we have been in the same division together.
Apparently our full time keeper is in warmer climates in South America taking meetings, supposedly with Boca Juniors in Buenos Aires and Palmieras in Sao Paolo, to determine his next career steps. Good luck Jason.
