Dinamo Red Star 5 Lions FC 0

Match Report – 6 May 2010 – Match Day 9 (makup)

Dinamo Red Star (Campos, Alvarado, Davis, Speiser x2) |5 – 0| Lions FC

After an up and down season, our playoff hopes came down to one game…the final game of the season.  The formula was simple: win and we’re in.  The remaining question was one that had plagued us all season.  How many will show?

Well, one glimpse at the score line and it suffices to say what happened.  16 determined and focused players showed up.  From back to front and from side to side we were stacked and ready to see what damage we could do.  Billy “the flash” Campos wore out their back four netting one in the process.  Mat “the hammer” Davis drilled a ball from 20+ that was hit so hard I thought I heard the keeper’s wrists crack when he tried to stop it.  “Triple A” aka Austin “the assassin” Alvarado sniper fired in a debut goal…finally getting out of the back line.  But Matt “the spider” Speiser gets top marks for an intense work rate and two quality finishes.  He deftly collected a long switch from “the hammer” and then promptly drilled home a goal for his first.  The second was heads up and composure personified.  Their keeper came well off his line while delivering a poor clearance which “the spider” trapped and then calmly netted.

Keeping a clean sheet is also something worth noting.  We’ve all too often Bob Barker’d cheap goals and in a blow out there always seems to be some sort of parting consolation gift.  Forget that.  Mike was flying between the sticks and we played solid team defense.

We’ve always known what we can do with a full side and today our play finally neared the level of our potential.  There is room to improve and that we must as we are now in the playoffs!
